President - Rebecca Terrell
Rebecca is a 5th year Honours Geography and Environmental Management Co-op student from Erin, ON. She has been riding western since she was little and began learning english when she was 15. She has been competing in hunter divisions on both the Trillium and A circuit shows. This is Rebecca's fifth year with the equestrian team and has competed in the novice division on the OUEA for two years and the intermediate division for two years.
Rebecca has always had a love for animals. She has four horses named Talulah, Lizzie, Bronze, and Gabby. She has always had horses throughout her life so the OUEA allows her to snuggle all the ponies she can get her arms around! This year Rebecca has been showing her horses Gabby and Bronze while training her green horse Talulah in her spare timed other content.
Show Team Captain- Elyse Batista
Elyse Batista is in her third year of Life Sciences at UW. She's been riding for 18 years and loves to spend as much time in the show ring as she can. If you can't find her on campus, it's because she's busy riding her favourite warmblood gelding, Dolce. One day she hopes to jump the Modified Grand Prixs with him, and until then, they'll compete in the medals and Young Horse series on the A circuit. In her free time, she really likes to wake up too early, drink too much coffee, and buy too many pairs of boots for her horse to chew on. After three great years competing in the Open Division on the OUEA, she's looking forward to captaining the UWEQ Team with the help of the rest of the exec!
Assistant Show Team Captain - Sarah Baker
Sarah is a third year Public Health Co-op student from Mississauga, Ontario. This is Sarah’s third year competing as a novice rider on the OUEA. Sarah has been a member of the team since her first year here at Waterloo, and has been riding since she was 10. Apart from the OUEA, Sarah has been competing at some local schooling shows in the 2’9” hunter division with her 16 year old mare, Bella. This is Sarah’s first year on the executive, and she is looking forward to learning more about the OUEA and supporting the team!
Secretary - Jessie Tucker
Jessie is going into her second year of Honours Kinesiology. She began taking lessons at the age of seven, and hasn’t been able to shake her love of horses since. After riding recreationally for about 12 years, her first showing experience was when she joined the team in the Fall of 2015, competing in the Entry level division on the OUEA circuit. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her dog Cassidy, and online shopping for Bernese Mountain dog puppies. She is very excited for another great opportunity to pursue her love of horses during her time at University!
Treasurer - Eureka Choi
Eureka is in the second year of her Master's program in Chemical Engineering. Although she has only been riding for the past five years, she has loved horses for as long as she can remember. Due to being in a co-op program for her undergrad, she was constantly moving barns until she started graduate school last summer. Now that she is riding consistently, she has big dreams of competing on the Trillium circuit next year.
This year will be Eureka's second year competing on the OUEA. However, she volunteered as a horse handler at her first OUEA show six years ago, and loved it so much she has done it again every year since. Outside of the OUEA, she has been doing schooling shows to build up her show experience. She is looking forward to another great season with the UWEQ team!
